There is a moment in every story when it's unsure if the hero will win. There is a point in every tale and every myth, in which you doubt that good will triumph over evil and the just will prevail over the unjust. It'is at those moments that something extra must be done by the hero in order for the story to be concluded.
All that was past is just prelude to the main event, and the event is some realisation not about the outside world but about the inside world of the hero. In that moment a great truth has been discovered and more importantly put into action. Just prior to that precise moment is when the hero was free to try the amazing, the ridiculous, the unconventional, the weird or the strange and the answer was found.
